About the Artist
Hi, I’m Enuka!
I'm a visual artist living on the beautiful southeast coast of NSW,, Australia, where the escarpment meets the Pacific Ocean. Having called Wollongong home for almost four decades, I’m forever amazed by the endless source of inspiration surrounding me of the ocean, changing landscapes, colours and rhythms of nature,
My name, Enuka, comes from Pukapuka, a tiny island in the Cook Islands (yes, it even rhymes!). I’m grateful to carry the name passed down of some beautiful, strong and loving women who came before me.
As a Cook Islands–Australian artist living with disability, my creative practice is an ongoing exploration of identity, culture, connection and belonging.
In this chapter of my life, I feel an undeniable calling to reconnect with my Polynesian ancestry and the cultural heritage I didn't grow up with. This journey of rediscovery is deepening my sense of self, identity and belonging, bringing new meaning to my creative practice and gradually finding its way into my art.
Living with a progressive disability has been a journey of change, grief and adaptation. As my physical abilities change, I'm learning to navigate new limitations as well as ways of expanding and being more intentional with my energy. My focus in art gives me space to process emotions, explore my changing identity and find meaning, joy and possibility through the challenges and opportunities that open.
My art explores the many layers of being human from rediscovering my cultural roots to navigating life in a changing body, embracing the beauty, complexity, grief and contradictions along the way.
My artistic style is ever-evolving, dancing between abstraction and realism, guided by curiosity and a love of experimenting with different mediums and techniques. My process is intuitive, expressive and often playful, allowing each piece to unfold in its own way and this make each piece uniquely special.
Through layers of colour, line, texture and sometimes text, I express my life experiences and perspectives that can be challenging to put into words sometimes. For me, the journey of creating is just as meaningful as the finished piece.
Art has become to be an expansive tool for healing, connection and self-discovery. It brings meaning and purpose into my life and loving guiding my back to my heART.
Creative expression is it's an essential part of my wellbeing and how I experience and connect with the world and given me new perspectives.
I've been involved in the Illawarra arts community for many years, including voluntary work at Project Contemporary Artspace. My work has been featured in group exhibitions and recognised through several art awards, including First Prize and Curator's Choice in 2022 and the Lever's Choice Award in 2025.
My hope is that my art sparks joy, wonder and curiosity, inviting you to be present, feel and reflect. Each piece carries its own unique energy and story or message, offering something different for everyone to discover and connect with. Perhaps it’ll inspire you to reconnect with your own creativity and bring a little more colour, curiosity and playfulness into everyday life.
Welcome to a little glimpse of my creations and the ever-evolving world of my imagination.
With love,
Enuka ♡
